The
name 'lingual' refers to the attachment of the appliance
on the 'lingual' surface of the tooth - inside the mouth
where they cannot be seen, instead of being on the front
of the tooth. This treatment has been used for 20 years
in the USA, Japan and France, and recent improvements in
design have led to it becoming more readily available in
the UK.
Treatment
time for lingual treatment is virtually the same as that
for regular fixed braces, but appointment times are slightly
longer.
The
great advantage to the patient is that lingual appliances
are completely invisible - no one need know you are wearing
them!
